hey, what 2014 movies did you see. usually i dont care much about what's nominated or w/e but ive heard a ton of good things about a lot of stuff this last year. the only one i saw was birdman and i really really liked it. it was sort of stupid but i still enjoyed it and it was well worth my time. better than i expected even. what did you guys see and what did you think? what was your favorite thing? is there a thing you want to see still?

listen up philip was a pleasant surprise for me as i didnt know anything about it before i watched it they came together was good and underrated but you have to be a fan of david wain i guess gone girl was amazing - could be fincher's best movie i was disappointed by boyhood but that was down to the limitations of filming a movie over 12 years. still a good movie. interstellar fell a little flat for me for various reasons but it was pretty good live die repeat (edge of tomorrow) was very good sci fi action. emily blunt!
theres still a few other movies i havent watched yet that i'd like to - nightcrawler, the immigrant and whiplash spring to mind. and i'd like to see birdman just because of the good reception but i'm not super interested in that.
also inherent vice is technically a 2014 movie but it isnt out here for another five billy-goating weeks they pushed the release date back a full month JUST RELEASE THE billy-goatING MOVIE WHY DO I LIVE IN THIS COUNTRY

Nightcrawler was pretty strange and good. Jake G gives a pretty creppy perform. Loved Boyhood. Birdman was fairly excellent aside from the far too heavy nod to Scorsese in the end. The Babadook is a really good Horror film. Maybe not quite horrifying or anything, but very tense. William Friedkin claims it is up there with Psycho, Alien etc. Scariest ever, etc. He's full of shit but its really good. Dawn of the Planet of the Apes! Ape follow Koba now.

Interstellar looks dumb as shit. grand budapest hotel was pretty bad. was that 2014? Snowpiercer is hilarious. Train circles the globe after earth freezes, big class struggle. Ed Harris, etc. Very good. So dumb. Very good.

The ending was a bit too reminiscent of Taxi Driver. Ya know? Kind of like an unnecessary and possibly delusional ending tacked on. Wake up in hospital. All good things come about. SPOILERS

ah ok, honestly it felt totally different to me than in that movie though i see the resemblance now that you point it out. i feel differently about how that scorsese thing plays out than i do about how birdman plays out

No doubt its heavily influenced by Scorsese. Same goes for Nightcrawler. Some similarities between the two. Drew a lot of influence from King of Comedy, Taxi Driver, After Hours.

Ed Harris, etc. Very good. So dumb. Very good. I disagree entirely, everything in it was good. The movie was aesthetically pleasing, the story and characters were interesting (though it took a bit to get into, like all wes anderson films). It wasn't his best work but it still was my favorite of 2014.
