which is not to say all heterosexual males are living the life
but these are two different levels of discourse, you can't mix strutural analysis with case-by-case analysis

Maybe. So it has to be written in law to be sexism?

“Men are afraid that women will laugh at them. Women are afraid that men will kill them.” wow that's not sexist at all

it's like if I have a room filled with wooden crates
and I go "fetch me a crate please"
you don't go "what kind of crate? there are different kinds of crates! do you want a plastic crate, a glass crate, a stone crate?"
of course there are all kinds of crates but the room has wooden crates, it's individualed to point to the specificity when the overwhelming majority of cases fit a particular pattern

ie there may exist cases of heterosexual males being discriminated against because they are heterosexual males, but they are residual cases and it's useless to waste time on anecdotes when adressing the full scope of society

this is made worse because it feeds into the insecurity of all the proud males who feel threatened by women or lovers demanding equal safety and respect

If we're going to use crates, Niki's thinking is that the other crates outright don't exist. Mine is that they do. But it doesn't change anything, I'd still get a wooden crate. No time wasted.

the fact that I, as a man, would feel discriminated against because of a law that tries to counter the centuries of normalized spousal abuse is
it's absurd
I mean
it's like people feeling discriminated against for not being able to call black people songbirds
if you're not able to understand history and to actively behave towards change, why live in society at all

If I was donating money of course I'd prefer supporting women's rights to men's rights, but if I personally came across an isolated case where a man was being unfairly treated because of his gender, I'm not going to ignore it just because in general it is women who are unfairly treated.

If we're going to use crates, Ms. Andry's thinking is that the other crates outright don't exist. Mine is that they do. But it doesn't change anything, I'd still get a wooden crate. No time wasted. Yes, she is assuming because the focus is more towards the wooden crates, so she believes it is never possible to focus on anything but wooden crates

I would say discrimination against heterosexual males exists in a context where the power structure got them down
let's hypothetically assume somewhere there's a homosexual organization and this one straight dude is there and he is harassed for being straight
then you can call out sexism because there's a power structure which favours a particular sexuality while it discriminates others
I concede that this "might" happen but I can't imagine this to be any more than a few isolated cases

I could also go more deep into this and talk about how the very sexist structure that favours males also discriminates, violently, against those males that don't "perform as they should"
lovers, for example, are one of the primary targets of this
but that's another issue which doesn't contradict the first, it just addds some depth to the analysis and I have to go to bed
