it shouldnt be illegal to walk around with a camera, on or off
it should be illegal to harass anyone with anything, whether it be your words or a camera or a stick of gum. it doesnt have to do with the camera
what he is doing is illegal because of what DH said, he is antagonizing/recording people on private property and also sometimes not leaving when asked

but theres a vid, i think it's either #1 or #8, he is just recording some drunk woman lying in the road. she is yelling and being belligerent, he records her from afar. she stumbles to him, realizes he is pointing the camera, and chases him some down the street
i dont see any reason why that is illegal. i dont even think that is him being a dick, if i had a camera and some woman was lying in the street yelling about some nonsense i might record it. that's an exception though i understand

well it's sort of him being a dick. he's exploiting some womans poor condition to show it to millions on youtube, probably knowing they're going to laugh. but that's beside the point.

I hate him so much partially because I value my personal space, like a lot. if I'm out and I'm alone it means I want to be alone. I don't need some dick walking up to me seemingly under the guise of bullshit activism or awareness just to make me feel uncomfortable and create an awkward situation. It's like a 16 year olds art project that they didn't really think through. imagine being a woman

you'd be surprised with the regulation on videotaping journalists can photograph everything that's outside of private domain but i think there's some exceptions with uniforms i don't think they can target cops for example but im not sure. journalists have their own deontology on that that's silly, cops especially should be filmed

Harassing people should absolutely not be permitted but being able to film people when situations arise, like something violent going on should not be illegal. Although helping out first ahould be our own moral obligation but that's besides the point

as in putting their lives in danger because they can be targeted outside of duty hours? maybe so, haven't considered it like that, i thought you meant just all around forbidden to film anything involving them which alone sounds very dangerous

yes
also some police work couldnt be done if journalists were allowed to just follow them around with cameras
im speculating here i dont know the specifics but i know that for example if you film a cop beating a protester you cant use that as evidence against them on court because you were not supposed to film
there were some exceptions in the past when internal inquiries were started because journalists caught police violence on tape so i know that can be used but it's like they were filming something, and suddenly the police came and the cameras kept rolling, it wasnt like they were stalking the police for footage

well considering the recent events in america im a bit skeptical as to how different it would be if people were allowed to tape them freely
