I thought he knew some sort of in-the-biz acting lingo that I'd never heard of

yeah he's kinda dickish even, it's disheartening to see how un-fun he can be sometimes off camera i think he as a person just takes his job seriously rather than be a comedic actor, he's playing the part of someone who is funny (or, silly). kramer doesnt really make jokes, his existence and character is the joke. i see it as him having a different job

Michael Richards is probably the best comedic actor of all of them. His timing and physical stunts are impeccable, not to mention his wide range of wacky facial gestures.
I think your description better fits Jason Alexander than Michael Richards.

i think it is a wild exaggeration to say he is the best comedic actor of all time BUT my point was that his ability to be comedic came from typical acting talent and not comedic talent
i dont think michael richards is a funny, goofy person at all in real life. i dont think he would walk around making jokes. i think (and know) jason alexander, jerry, and julia loopy dandruff are really more lighthearted people. it seems to me, at least. it also makes sense to me that someone that can be so extreme one way (as silly as kramer is) must be extremely the other way in person

I think gtits is right about jason alexander, too. he's a stage actor and he always seemed kind of professorial or something. I think michael richards was the most serious on the set of seinfeld because he probably felt he was carrying the show, along with the writing. he was always doing physical stuff and acting insane, which is hard enough to do without someone breaking character and (understandably) laughing their ass off.

Jerry is a mediocre actor, but that's what makes the show so good being surrounded by three incredibly talented ones
They play off of his blandness
