what is this thread about I don't understand
like movies in general or movies that are closely related to history
because if it's movies with historical significance I could bust out a huge recommendation list

Our local theater showed 1982 The Thing last night. Seeing it for the first time in a theater was pretty cool.

movies in general however january is national movie history month so feel free to give recs movies to avoid: Saving Private Ryan, Thin Red Line, Pearl Harbor, Glory, Inglorious Basterds and Enemy at the Gates. Movies I'd rec: Letters from Iwo JimaNot many movies that are from the Japanese point of view that are also as good as this one. It's a good view of how the battle was fought and how horrible it was to be in the japanese army at the time. Das BootYou may think I have a boner for movies from the opposite point of view, but that's not the case. This is a fictional movie that accurately portrays the life inside a U-Boat in WWII. Watch the directors cut. Paths of GloryIt's billy-goating Stanley Kubrick directing and Kirk Douglas as the main actor, not much else to say. (Time period is WWI and it revolves around a court case) Apocalypse Now
It's Heart of Darkness set in the Vietnam War, beautifully done. Pan's Labyrinth
Not only is this a good fantasy movie but a nice insight to the instability of Spain after their civil war.
