uhh i used a code to get it for $22 on greenmangaming instead of 30. not a huge sale but w/e i think if you liked dark souls, theres a chance youd like the game. i have a problem with that type of recommendation because a part of me wants to say "you liked the one so youd like something similar" but a part of me can imagine someone saying "ugh i hate this its similar enough for everything different to be so wrong" that being said, i think where dark souls is good for its action and tension dragon's dogma is good for its adventure and exploration. and honestly, i think the dark souls games have very rigid controls and you cant do much but stab and roll (i know dark souls nerds are probably upset at that description) but special attacks in DD (you have basic light and heavy attacks- for a sword user its slash vs stab, with a staff its shoot a bolt vs swing your staff) are so various and cool. there are attacks that FLING enemies into the air, there are attacks that launch you in the air to strike across or down to enemies, attacks that will slice and then make you backstep. and these are just melee. there are some typical elemental magicks but then the dark magic is boss, being able to petrify enemies is really cool honestly i cant promise that a person will LIKE it but there is no doubt in my mind that this game is good. the story is even sorta cool, not extravagant but interesting enough and not insulting. my only complaint about the PC release so far is that the menus are not ported well and you cant move your map with the mouse, you have to use the arrow keys?? thank you ben this is very helpful, i will probably get it. ive also heard theres good character creation and you can be pleasant and the game isnt weird about it

also ben of course theres special attacks like that in souls games, the variety depends on your play style and if you found it monotonous i would recommend starting a new character (in 1) or respeccing (in 2) and use a magic/pyromancy build or even switching up your weapon class. it really breaks it up

I'VE PLAYED
Dark Messiah of Might and Magic
I had the game from a m&m humble bundle i bought a few months ago and never actually played it. it's nice, but not above average for a game. im deep into the story and im finding out that the game suffers from trying to have a lot of things but not mastering a single one of them. There's a live battle system, but it's not very responsive; there's platforming, but it's buggy and "light", there's no meat there; there's a skill tree system, but it's very limited and eventually you just start adding points to every strong skill and become a mage stealth warrior - also the ranged class is pure shit; there are puzzles, though bland and there is a party system which I definitely recommend you to avoid.
the story is meh, a bit confusing because it's unclear. there's a bit of a plot twist halfway through and a choice for you to make, but so far I didn't find it very engaging. there's a LOT of dungeon crawling which makes the game aesthetically boring, even if sometimes it has its high moments they are few and far between. also the main character's voice acting is abysmal.
I guess the game was a first of its kind in many ways so I can appreciate that, but im not sure ill finish it.
Tharsis
I bought Tharsis on a 30%off sale because the concept sounded interesting. the premise gameplay-wise is a sort of FTL with dice, you have your crew in space and you havee to manage the different modules of your spaceship so you can survive a full trip to your destination. the game is VERY hard and frustrating until you get the hang of it, mostly because the strengths and weaknesses are counterintuitive, and also there's a lot of probability manipulation. I bought the game because it has a horror scifi theme as a background story. the gist is that you're in a spaceship bound to mars, because a signal came from mars and everyone wtf'd, and as you get to mars your ship starts breaking apart because of a meteor shower, and the signal reveals that it's likely human (double the wtf) so I wanted to experience that
the main problem with the game is that it's very short. there is replayability because the ending changes depending on how many people you can get to mars, whether or not there is cannibalism involved in surviving the trip, WHO gets to mars and all sorts of other choices you make. but the game is ten turns long. if you have a lucky run it's over in like 15 minutes. you can unlock new characters but once I won in normal mode, I didn't feel like playing it again, which made it a short thing that didn't really make up for the $10 I spent. if the upcoming "missions" are free DLC, I'll change my mind on that.

so the mystic knight can place a magick orb. you can then hit it with a weapon and missiles will come out, doing as much damage as the hit you put in as the same element your pawns and even enemies can hit it: but whats really cool about the mystic knight, is if you perform perfect blocks with the right core skills you can reroute all kinds of damage (taken and received) on a perfect block. it can also be channeled through the orb:

oh is his pawn Yuu? She's creepy but got good damage for my level
i have the same problem that i have had in dark souls / bloodborne where I keep remaking characters till i find one that i like working with. i know you can change vocations and that it's not a big deal but I went and did it a couple times anyway. i think i've settled on it. watch for my fighter pawn johanna, who will be too low for any of you to use effectively
