Sometimes I wonder if I don't find newer cartoons entertaining, funny, etc is because a) I'm not the target audience b) I'm older and for some reason I'm naturally predisposed to not like cartoons c) or am I biased toward the cartoons I remember growing up.
But I thinking critically about it I feel as if older cartoons were just made better, funnier, wittier, drawn/colored better, and so on. Take spongebob for example: regardless of how you feel about it, I think the show is animated/colored/etc very well. That's probably why it's still around and has been for what, ten years now? I think they're still putting out new episodes and they're still just as bizarre as when the show first came out. That's just my theory anyway.
Tldr version: you suck

Maybe cartoons that came out around when spongebob was new. Perhaps a bit before then. Going from that general time back to say Looney tunes/merry melodies.

Adventure Time, Gravity Falls, MLP are fine
Theatrical cartoons obviously have higher production values but that's about it

Going from that general time back to say Looney tunes/merry melodies. so you're saying cartoons were good from a time span of 60 odd years that is incredibly broad and an outlandish statement I can pick a good amount of new cartoons and enjoy them for their writing/humor. I could understand if you picked a specific time frame, but you just said CARTOONS THAT WERE FROM WHEN I WAS A KID If you take off your nostalgia goggles, there are piles of shit on top of the glistening beauties

Nostalgia does take a big part in it but usually people end up comparing an entire decade worth of content to whatever is on that year.
