You answered your question about whether or not we can judge him with your next post about environment determining decisions. It's not so much about judging Hitler the person as it is judging the decisions he made. Doing the latter is right because people are incentive driven and the threat of being judged/punished by society will impact the choices we make. By judging his actions we change the environment and hopefully this makes other people make better decisions.
It's a different story if you want to talk about "divine judgement" however. If an all knowing god creates you with a certain personality and puts you in a particular environment knowing full well the outcome it will generate then it's hardly your fault. You were knowingly set up to fail and the idea that the all knowing god would punish you for that is beyond billy-goated.

Yeah I think we agree Punishments still deter others even if we are all 'blameless'. It does seem to remove vengeance from the reason for punishment though. This topic is interesting because of how awfully deterministic/materialistic it is

I think every one of us, without prior knowledge of history, would start down the same path as hitler. The time period would have clouded everyones minds.

you wouldn't turn communist after being blinded by a french mustard gas attack
you would take all the resentment for the french and dedicate your entire life to getting revenge

If you were destined to be a certain way that would imply some kind of god or creator or higher power or whatever, and I find it hard to believe in those things, so yes I be leive in free will.
