if nikis opinions upset you then dont respond to them or else i will literally ban you from my thread. i am not kidding. i hate having to say "except spartacus" when i say what kubrick films ive seen so one of these days i will put it on while im doing something else. i am not a person that likes "epics" necessary so good, at least i dont feel like a fool for being unmotivated i was far from in love with the shining. there is a lot of stuff i liked in it but eyes wide shut hit me a lot harder- i bet that has to do with all the details of the shining having been dulled down from culture ("here's johnny", "all work and no play", shelley duvall's weird face, the twins, etc) Have you seen room 237? It's a documentary that came out this past year on the shining. It's a fun watch, it's about all the hidden symbols and messages buried in the movie. Some of the theories are kinda nuts but I still found it pretty cool. You should check it out! It's on Netflix if you have it. i saw parts of it as well as parts of a similar documentary on youtube. i cant tell you how sensitive to conpiracist bullshit i am and so that documentary didnt do anything for me. i dont go for "its not true but its cool to think about", it was all crap and boring. that being said i didnt actually sit down and watch it so maybe im missing some miracle of a documentary that ties itself together but i doubt it

There were definitely some cool parts. Like with the Indian crisco or whatever it is and how they talk about kubrics style of filming and stuff. I found it interesting.

In the office with an "impossible" window!! Although it is an impossible window I don't think it was done on purpose I just think kubric never thought anyone would delve that deeply into the layout of the building.
BUT it was really neat when they were talking about it when Mikey (I think that's his name? The kid) was riding around the building on his big wheel

that being said, i have watched the first movie on my list, 12 years a slave. so far it is my favorite movie on the list but also my least favorite as well as somewhere in the middle. i think i am going alphabetically so next would be big trouble in little china. here is my favorite shot from the movie (potential spoilers?). i realized this may be hard if the movies arent grossly cinematic it is hard to spoil the movie too much because you kinda know what youre getting after the first... 20 minutes. i thought it was p good, in the larger scope of things it isnt my favorite type of movie (i like gonzo stuff or sci fi or surreal whatnot) but it was incredibly well made and all that. i should mention that i am not at all going to judge these movies according to how objectively nice they are, only on how close i feel to it. i knew only the premise going in. there are some actors that you never forget who they are so seeing brad pitt dressed as a country singer was a bit distracting, but is that the movie's fault? other examples of these types of actors: tom cruise, leo decap. they are good actors (exempting leo decap) but i am always prone to seeing them as the actor rather than the part. michael fassbender was great and definitely not this so good for him. the only other thing i saw him in was prometheus and that movie was not my thing. also baldrick cabbagepatch was cool.

also the one i am talking about i think is the other one i saw, which was more about the moon landing being hoaxed than anything but i remember room 237 and that one was also grasping for a bit

Room 237 is just fun. It has a bunch of different people throwing in opinions on a lot of different things in the movie. It isn't so much conspiracy as it is looking at the subtle almost subliminal messages that are in the film. Some people definitely look a little deeper than they really should though.
The moon landing conspiracy shit bothers me, I can't watch bullshit like that either.

That scene was amazing, I think it's the most uncomfortable a movie has ever made me feel. The acting in the movie is incredible too, Chiwitel Ejiofor deserves every award he gets and Fassbender is always great, even in the shitty Prometheus I thought he stood out. I might join you in watching BTILC, it's one of those movies I've heard a lot about and never got round to watching.

I am glad you took the recommendation, they live is a damn good movie. there are good contributions!!! just finished big trouble in little china. that was the most purposefully ridiculous movie i have ever seen, i think. but it was very cool. that kind of thing isnt really my thing but as far as those things go this was definitely a great thing. i really just dont like action movies, but at the same time it's doing it a disservice to write it off as an "action movie". i knew what i was getting going into it but maybe this was a bad thing to watch immediately after the harrowing slavery movie. i want to know what tom thinks of it because im a horrible judge of things like this favorite shot link (there wasnt anything VERY striking but i liked this) next up: blue velvet
