first impressions
Might&Magic are first person dungeon crawler rpgs. as you might imagine, playing one of those from the late 80's is an eye sore and it draws cpu noises rather than actual music/MIDI so its just painful to go through
i might give a shot to might and magic 6, the last of the series, dated 1996.
i tried that game out already though and it suffers from another old game problem. since you bought the games in box form, they had their written manual with concept art etc, so that means the main game doesnt have tutorial or a scaled introduction of any sort. you just straight into the game without knowing the slightest of what is going on. i recommend watching a lets play on yt so you get the hang of it
now as for the heroes games ive talked to tempest about them already and it turns out heroes 3 HD remake (the one in the bundle) is shitty. so ill probably pirate the original heroes 3 when i get to play it since i want to play the games chronologically. ive already started on homm2 and it's surprisingly good.
i was used to the age of wonders kind of game where there's a lot of battlefield strategy but this game looks more like a sheer strength in numbers as a win condition.
storywise they seem to be on par. as i understood, might&magic 6 picks up after the death of king roland. in homm2, roland is a lord thats cast out by some other evil lord (you play either in the campaign, i chose evil) so i expect he eventually rises to become king so im guessing the timeline goes back again
but yeah that was money well spent

Also, have you played the ultima series? Ultima underworld was the first real pc game I ever played and it was a lot of fun. It's a fairly in depth rpg, if you haven't played it maybe take a look.

I'm pretty sure you're confusing ultima with the alien squad killing game
