howdy y'all welcome to mid-may (summer fun~)
what are you guys playing?
i finished bloodborne! i really loved it, everything about it. i thought the ending (my ending, there are a few) was really poignant and the whole of the game made me think about the nature of storytelling. it is a cool thing. i dont have ps+ at the moment but i want to try out PvP soon.
i also finished the last of us: remastered! i really loved it, but was overall underwhelmed. after such a long time with people saying that the game will "destroy me" or that it is the best game of the last generation, 10/10 etc i was really expecting something more than what i got. im not trying to say it was bad, but it was not mind-bending-blowing-crushing. it was just really really good. i suspect this opinion will be unpopular...
im usually not big into linear stories anyhow, and once it really dawned on me that i was along for someone else's ride i guess i was really taken out of it. it didnt feel like it was... told properly? not for me, at least. a large portion of the game felt like it was (forgive me) predictable, and while i give the ending credit for being what it was- it really didnt sit well with me. not because the tone of the ending was or was not disturbing! bloodborne's end didnt sit well with me either, but in a successful way. it wasnt that i felt depressed or hopeless or apocalyptic at the end of TLoU, i felt disturbed with the storytelling. i hope that difference is clear.
what did you guys think of it? do you agree with me? do you disagree? do you REALLY disagree? i tried not to talk about spoilers but you can mention them. just remember to tag it!!! i managed to wait until this month to beat the game and nothing of it was spoiled which is a rare treat
i've also been playing the path of exile closed beta. none of you care about that.
i got paper mario with my nintendo club credit. it's nice. ive been playing the MK8 dlc, too... what else? OH! splatoon is spla-soon. i am hyped for it. i really enjoyed what i played in the testfires.
oh i guess we should have a poll question- uh. okay i put one there

poll related: i recently made an inventory of all of the games i have on-hand (not including PC games and handhelds). so, wii + wiiu + virtual console + ps3 + ps4. i then marked them 0 for unbeaten and 1 for beaten, and i am proud to say that i am sitting at a ~51.3% of games beaten

For a poll in the future I'd like to see how many hours y'all play a week. I can't fathom having the time to play two consoles simultaneously (figuratively.). I did manage to play like five hours straight of Xenoblade (my PC was being used by someone else) yesterday and I felt happy and then disgusted.
Oh yeah, I'm spending all my free hours on Xenoblade billy-goatin Chronicles. I knew all about the game's length and I understood what I was in for. Other than the length, I knew nothing about the game! Spoiler-free!
I'm a few levels away from 40 and so far I THINK I just recruited the last party member, judging from just reading the achievements. By the way I also think the achievements are very weird in that they list actions to do with certain characters that kind of spoil the nature of death in this game! Unless there are achievements that are missable (and I don't think there are any)
Anyway is the game worth it? Sure. Most bosses feel REALLY good to kill when I manage to, especially when they ambush me. There's so many things to do and keep track of, and yet it feels okay if you forget to do some of thise things for a while. (E.g. Check on a colony, forge some better gems...). Unlike real life.
What feels so-so? I knew the world was supposed to be big (I read that it's supposed to be bigger than Skyrim) and it is! But I was expecting it to be one big world like, indeed, Skyrim, or Fallout 3 with instances for interiors. But it's actually divided into many smalller 'levels' (which are still big!) and there aren't seamless transitions between them like I was hoping. That will be in Xenoblade X!
Any bad points? Well, the characters yammer a lot when they have a battle, and I wish there was a way to turn off just the battle dialogue. I actually didn't mind it but one day my manssiere just freaked out "JESUS CHRIST THEY'RE SAYING THE SAME THING OVER AND OVER" while I was playing it. It was a little embarrassing.
Can I finish this by next month?! Stay tuned!

watch dogs is giving me the GTA kick ive been missing for years so ive been playing it feverishly. i completed all the side missions and collectibles a few days ago but i cant be bothered doing the mini games to get 100%. ive been doing the online contracts instead, tailing people is really fun. apart from that i have played a bit of ninja gaiden razors edge which is pretty fun, i've never played ninja gaiden before. i bought bayonetta 1 + 2 over a week ago and havent even opened the cases yet but im sure i'll play that before the month is out

Oh yeah what Wii (U) games have I beaten
Co-op: Rayman Origins - Beaten, even beat secret level but costumes take too long to unlock Rayman Legends - 100%! Unghf this was so good. Actually it helped that getting 100% in this was quite easy. Thanks, game. Donkey Kong Country Returns - Beaten, tried for 100% but f that Diddy's Kong Quest - Unbeaten - but close! Donkey Kong Country Tropical Freeze - Gahahaha, we barely even started this Super Mario 3D World - Oh hell yeah 100%'d this bitch unf
Solo: Metroid Prime Trilogy - Beaten the first one... But only halfway through second. Third untouched. Super Mario Galaxy - Beaten, and I'm not gonna even try for 100%, it's too boring playing it all again Super Mario Galaxy 2 - Beaten... But I still wanna finish bonus levels. Guacamelee - Beaten, a few costumes away from 100% so who cares Bayonetta 1 & 2 - Beaten... But, y'know, the bare minimum required to beat the games. I'm sure folks like Urser would be like nuh-uh you gotta finish hard mode or some bullcrap Mario Kart 8 - This used to be 100% until the DLC came out, screw you DLC. I'm gonna consider this beaten just because. Smash Brothers Wii U - I haven't cleared even half of the Challenges or finished Events, so I'm considering this unbeaten. Wind Waker HD - Man... I don't think I'm even halfway Xenoblade Chronicles - f no Smash manssieres. Brawl - Why do I even have this
So that's 56.25% which is pretty good
However I have a ton of 3DS stuff and I'm not gonna count them and I think I've beaten even less of them dammit
I think I just hate playing games like Majora's Mask while outside, games like those aren't easy to pick up and put down, and if I'm at home, I'd just play Wii U so they never get played

I've been playing Aria of Sorrow on the WiiU since it's on the virtual console and its pretty rad. Still playing bloodborne, other things have been getting in the way, namely Monster Hunter, which I still play. a lot. my wiiU will get a lot of work when tempest visits because thats the only billy-goatin' system with couch co-op games anymore

as far as the WiiU goes:
hyrule warriors - beat story, unlocked all characters. havent gone through all the adventure maps yet but i have the dlc. i'd say beaten super mario 3d world - about halfway through. not beaten smash 4 - maybe half the challenges, all characters and maps unlocked, all events complete. i'd say beaten MK8 - had 3 stars in every cup before 200cc, all characters unlocked. all time trial ghosts complete. i'd say beaten lego city - story mode done, about 50% through all the collectibles. beaten wonderful 101 - story beaten, a lot of other stuff collected but not fully. beaten monster hunter 3 - i dont know what constitutes beating a monster hunter game, but im on the 4 star quests now i think DKC: TF - just started it, not beaten pikmin 3 - beaten wind waker - beaten yoshi's island - not yet paper mario - not yet
7/12 = 58.3%
ps4, i just have bloodborne, TLoU, and the borderlands collection. ive beat the first two so 50%

havent played much but what do you mean poe closed beta? i thought it was on release am i missing something
i've played half of wolfenstein: new order and so faar im underwhelmed
the pacing is off. i get the progression and the story but it all feels off. now im not sure whether this is on purpose - im now getting a feelin g that it is - but i still think stuff is off. gameplaywise it plays well though the hitboxes dont really seem consistent - armored soldiers really defeat the purpose of headshotting - and oftentimes battles are not so much bout your skill as thye are about defining the best "cower and shoot" strategy in that particula rmap
storywise it seems misconnected at various points. there's a lot of rushed in charater backstory (there0s a secondary character who's a love interest. she's nurse and suddenly you need someone who can deal with encryption and then it's revealed she was doing her doctorate in london so shes crazy smart, apparently being a nurse just wasnt dignified enough).
the voice acting is good. guns feel good. i feel like this would be a better game if it could free itself from the mms tropes

what are you playing that on, grue?
also theres a big big big update coming for PoE, right now there are 3 acts repeated in 3 difficulties. they are adding an act 4, and eventually they will have only 2 difficulties with 4-6 acts in each. they are also making massive changes to some mechanics, adding new skills, new types of items, quality of life, etc. that big update has its own closed beta
