i thought that the number of people /state in the electoral college was determined by the state's population proportionally, relative to the whole country uhh it SORT of is, but my example still stands when comparing the big boy states like texas and cali with the boring or little ones especially. its just a weird thing to do in theory, i dont know why we still do (thats not true, i know its because we are stubborn and lazy) the theory behind representative elections is that it's more significant in terms of statewide representation, because it is sure to elect someone from that region so in tempest's example, say the votes counted nationwide, directly. maybe his vote could be more meaningful in electing the bern, but at the same time ther would probably be noone from alaska in the electoral college. this sort of system is meant to force parties to decentralize and in that restricted sense is a bit more democratic tihs is assuming the electoral college does more than just simply voting on your behalf by proxy. in that case, it's just a convoluted way to remove significance from your vote and ensuring power stays in power. shitty

do you ever have a pm whose name is tonny abbot and then criticize other countries and the way they elect their leaders?

that's tony, and he was elected as leader of the liberal party whose coalition won government precisely because most australians are conservative racists/reactionary morons

for what it is worth, the moderate faction staged a successful coup and tony abbott is no longer prime minister

i dont mean this in a mean way, but what do you guys want a democracy to look like
you can criticize its format all you want but i dont think theres a single way to do it without pissing someone off, right
but you also probably dont want not a democracy? if you dont, what is that. if you do, how
a 1:1 direct voting? runners up? for the party and not the person like grue described? how
