I've been meaning to get back into it, I haven't drawn SHIT since the tourney. I need to get a good program for free to use on my PC as my Mac is so old and slow.
Anyway this is a cool thread to start so maybe I'll draw some tonight.
Figure Drawing and Guesturing is good stuff, here's a nice video

it's not so much for the demonstration of his ability, but an explanation of why gesturing is good to practice

yeah, im not doubting his abilities, im just not sure if that the most useful way to practice figure drawing, it seems to inhibit creativity and doesnt convey movement as effectively

you mean the way he's holding his pencil? thats how a lot of artists do it when drawing on a vertical surface, typical of figure drawing classes. it uses more of the shoulder and less of the wrist.
if you're drawing on a horizontal surface / tablet / cintique it obviously wouldn't translate well

i was thinking more the length of his lines he seems to draw very short, controlled lines and he often restates. It looks more like he has a general idea of where each body piece goes, and then he puts those together like he's playing with lego That might make drawings that look similar to what he's attempting to draw, but it feels lifeless and robotic

they're supposed to be a basic outline of the motion and stance for the figure, used to show off some exaggeration and make the drawing when finished look more alive & dynamic than just drawing the figure's contours so its ironic that you feel it would be lifeless and robotic
but i'm not gonna fite about it i'm gonna draw some poop tnite

I'll maybe put some stuff in this thread. Been a while since I've drawn anything, got kind of discouraged/annoyed so stopped. Plus I've been busy with other stuff.
I want to take lessons. I see what I want to create in my head but i just don't know how to recreate it. I feel like I've hit a plateau of sorts

That's definitely a hard part of drawing until your skills can match what you envision
Classes are good, but expensive
