ok this is a 2015 movie but, in my running tradition i see 1 best picture nomination a year and in the past two years that film ends up winning. that is to say, i watched 12 years a slave and didn't really care about it that much but it won, and then i saw birdman and really liked it and then it won i watched "room". it is good, unfortunately i cant avoid a "the room" joke- ha ha where was tommy wiseau! oh man, im such a gas anyway i really liked the movie. i think it's good to see it without knowing anything about it, but it's a very limited premise that expands (this is obviously intentional in the context of the plot) if you watched it you should click this spoiler. it contains the things i liked about the movie -good setup of the premise. it wasn't a throwaway 15 minutes, it was like an hour of the movie taking its time which was cool -you dont hate the kid. half of this movie, or more, is this kid and you dont hate him. it's a miracle -many times i thought "oh no the kids gonna do something kiddie and naive and it's gonna be, 'gosh darn that rugrat he just cant get it right'" but that didnt happen -there are lots of small details (like the immune problems or childhood logic) that are well thought out and presented without being a big deal. they talk about how the kid could get sick, but he never does. i was worried it would become stupid like that but it didnt -i ALSO thought it would devolve into a court something or another about the dude but that is not what the movie is about and is barely mentioned -there was one actor that i recognized. im not hip but only like two people in the movie were even recognizable as names to me, which i think lent itself well to the isolation of the subject

oh, i should mention that theres something in particular wrong with my brain here. i had the same feeling at the start of gangs of new york youre put into this very esoteric world. it has its own internal logic and doesnt really follow a person's daily experience... obviously. but i seriously thought this movie was going to end up taking place on some artistic/metaphoric level or an alternate universe or something. i want more movies that almost take place in reality

Deadpool was quite enjoyable. The plot and villain was basically the most basic of all superhero movies but it had plenty of style and jokes, some of which were funny

I saw the witch I didn't like it. The parts I gave a shit about are never extrapolated upon and the scariest part of the movie is living in that pilgrim era new england

Ex Machina is really really cool. I only heard about it recently beacause it robbed mad max for special effects. It's a straight scifi movie in that it plays like any old Asimov short story. And it's really quite beautiful and SUPERBLY acted and makes me anxious for when I can have my own harem of lucy liubots
