FC3 was really good. It has a surprisingly decent narrative and a bunch of interesting characters which I've come to not expect from videogames. The organic gameplay in taking out enemy bases is fun too.
Apparently the expansion Blood Dragon is cool too so i'll get on that.

ive sunk over 30 hours on stardew valley on account of being bedridden and internetless. it's a farming game, you plant your crops and you farm them. you can get farm animals and you can foraage for food and stuff. there's a village with villlagers for you to befriend, there is fishing and buldings and upgrades to your house.
i guess the "twist" to these farming games is that it has a dungeon where you can kill monsters for loot, so it's been compared to terraria but rest assured the fighting is just a different form of farming for stuff, there's no complexity involved.
the game is bad, i just don't see how these games - like harvest moon, which i played, or animal crossing which i assume is similar - are anything other than glorified cow clickers. literally all you do is click things in time. there is no failure state per se, you can't lose. you can make mistakes in your investments, sell items you should be using on recipes or mismanage your building orders, or your crop structures. but mostly this doesn't doesn't seem to impact the game negatively outside of delaying you a bit and forcing you to regrind your way back to an optimal status.
so there's no failstate, but there's a "frustration" state I guess which is the result of poor management.
all you do is click. in this sense the advances are artificial - you can't speed up the game, shit happens at its own pace, like some crops only become available the second year. so really optimal farming only reduces the frustration of repetitive work. what starts out as a fun little farming game grows into a "work optimization" game where you constantly minimize the frustration of doing repetitive tasks.
and yet, some repetitive tasks you will need to do regardless. you need to pet your animals every day, refill your dog's water bowl every day. gather shit every day when there is shit to gather. feed the animals. you need to water your crops, but this can be optimized by building sprinklers - so far though, this is the only automation that I see happening.
there doesn't seem to exist any automation on feeding the animals or harvesting crops, so you have to do it yourself individually and that's boring as billy-goat.
add that to a very clunky inventory and crafting system - with very little room for optimization, think minecraft levels of "dump stuff in chests and pick up what you need to craft, without and way of cutting corners" - and most of the game will be a milling grind, which i could only stand due to being bedridden without any other games installed on my laptop. there is some mild satisfaction in discovering new shit but again the feeling grows that the "new shit" you discover is nothing more than a reskin of the things you were doing before. in a sense, it's pretty much like a cookie clicker, new cookies are just the same old thing
don't play it
ive also been playing Sunless Sea, a new expansion is about to come out. it's a nice game. it's based on the browser game Fallen London, one of those browser-based exploration games, but it has some nice simplistic graphics and gameplay.
you play as a ship captain on fallen london. london has sunk underground and there's a dreadful underground sea (the "zee") and islands for you to travel to. the whole thing plays as a lovecraftian horror story, with strange creatures and an ever-expanding lore. so if you're a fan of reading, it's a good game for you. if you don't feel like reading, the game is pointless, because the strong poing is solely the writing, you play it for the lore.
finally im stuck on thee binding of isaac. i unlocked Keeper and it's a dumb character that i just don't like playing.so im not playing.
