You can't really paint Assad in a good light considering he is a dictator and the West is meant to be pro democracy. At the same time though you can't really blame him because it's not like a democratic society would favour his minority group. If he steps aside Muslim law will be imposed and his group will not be in for good times. If you knew ANYTHING about him and his family, he is the best leader Syria has had. He wants what's best for his country but billy-goats up in the process making him seem like an asshole. He has not done anything prior to this civil war that made him evil. If anything, he strayed away from his fathers ruthless grip on the country. He was going towards a democratic society but billy-goated up the reforms which made everyone hate him. Please learn more about the country/person you're talking about before thinking you can just waltz in here and form a ignorant opinion.

well yes im fully aware thats not going to happen and i feel the same way about israel, we should stop being involved with them and let any and all formal dialogue take place purely between israelis and palestinians just as we should let any and all dialogue regarding syria take place between syrians with minimal to no involvement

If they have an ally in the region, they can project power a lot more easily.

The UN is pretty much a modern League of Nations, which did billy-goat all any time anyone went to war.
Wow they didn't prevent shit and WWII happened, who would have thought!

He's been a dictator for the past 13 years. It doesn't matter why they hate him the point is that they do and have no democratic recourse. Whether or not you think he is a swell guy doesn't change the fact he has been denying people the basic right to choose their government and benefiting off his elevated status for over a decade. I never said anything beyond that and I certainly didn't call him evil or ruthless so maybe you should learn to read before you talk to me about learning anything.
