I suck billy-goating ass at Metal Gear Solid. Every billy-goating time I try to be sneaky and not alert the whole billy-goating facility some shit happens that billy-goats me up. I nearly managed to do a fairly simple rescue after about 15 billy-goatups or so but it all went to shit. Honestly, what am i doing wrong? I feel like I'm misunderstanding the fundamental game mechanics. This game makes Dark Souls look like a billy-goating joke.

fun fact: dark souls is not anywhere near as hard as they claim, it just happens to play by its own rules. once you "get it", it's easy. MGS is no different
whats your loadout like? what primary/secondaries do you have? are they silenced? what are you wearing (which camo)? who are you bringing with you?
early game support items that helped me a lot: magazines (throw them over an enemy so he looks the other way, sneak up and hold him up. dont whip your gun out while youre walking up, walk up first then whip it out) and smoke grenades (they will see them and get freaked, but the smoke will disorient them and they wont see you CQC them)
if you have trouble with your footsteps being heard and you think crawling is too slow, get the sneaking suit. it will damped the noise (again, dont walk with your gun pointed or else you still make noise)

i've got the second tranq gun i think, and the starting silenced machine gun + the ruski sniper. Think I'm wearing desert camo but i know thats not very specific i've only unlocked the horse i feel like im failing to understand the parts of the game that arent directly related to sneaking way out of enemy range or taking out enemies 1 on 1 (which actually sounds a lot like the dark souls mentality). i guess i'll have to spend some time adapting

okay, having a silenced sniper is a great thing. you should do the "rescue the legendary gunsmith" side ops when you can. theres three i think. do all of them asap
also, the horse is sort of bogus. he aight but you should swap to ddog when you get him. ddog will mark enemies so that you are never surprised to see them]
what you should do: go ~150m from an outpost, mark everyone you can. for the smaller checkpoints that should be MAYBE 5 enemies, for the big ones itll be a lot more. next, find somewhere to go in (the entrance, or exit). either pick enemies off at that point from afar, or go in and get up close to them. wait for them to turn their backs to, point your weapon at them, tell them to 1) mark their friends 2) get down. they will stand back up if you start an alert, but otherwise they will be down permanently. stuns last only a little bit, sleep lasts a while. fulton them if youre really worried but that may also draw attention
if you see the white crackles, get down. get behind something, and wait it out. thats a sign youre 1) moving too fast or 2) not camo'd enough

if pubes has only unlocked the horse he is literally hours away from the legendary gunsmith.
i don't know how helpful my advice is but pretty much every mission takes me an hour+ anyway. i am incredibly slow and methodical, watching enemy patterns and making sure i have clear lanes to sneak in. honestly, early in the game, it's probably a bit easier for you to murder people silently and hide their corpses than try to finagle a way to fulton them out after tranqing them, or rushing yourself on your sneaky mission before they wake up from the tranq. now that i am a lot better at the game i kill nobody, it is fulton all day, but before that i would wait until i could single enemies out, grab them from stealth, and execute them, then dump their body somewhere in the vast afghani wilderness

like i take billy-goating forever, but it is satisfying as billy-goat when i manage to fulton out an entire base full of soldiers without raising a single alarm

I've not killed a single person purposely, aside from the mission to help the guerrillas.
I got my 2nd s rank today. The weird thing is they were both prisoner extractions. Go figure.
Also got dd now and he's pretty cool. I laughed really loud seeing the dog with an eyepatch
