Hey friends,
I just got H.P. Lovecraft The Complete Fiction and I really think I got my money's worth. It's literally every story he's written, and there's a lot of good ones, even his early ones.
Are you reading a book or planning to read one? What was was the last book you read?

I'd say try reading The Call of Cthulhu and The Mountains of Madness and if those don't do it for you then it just might not be your thing. I find the appeal to be in the thorough description and the intricacy of the world and creatures that Lovecraft creates. I have not read those two, so I cannot really compare. Just give those two a try is all I can recommend, also I find that if you go back and read it, it becomes clearer and you're able to visualize what he's talking about way clearer.

There are lots of other good ones so it's up to you if you want to see if it grows on you. Actually I'm not sure about shadow but I liked rats. Pickman's Model, The Outsider, The Colour Out Of Space, The Whisperer in Darkness are good from memory I really liked The Music of Erich Zann. That would be a good starter I'd say. Some of the stories have a bit of a cliche ending but that's the nature of trying to end every story on a shock horror realisation (Pickman's Model, The Outsider). I wouldn't blame anyone for not liking Lovecraft because it's just not for everyone and admittedly there's plenty of flaws in plot or writing skill. Overall they just have a wickedly mysterious and existentially terrifying atmosphere he was uniquely great at capturing.

I am reading Hawking's Brief History of Time right now its cool and interesting. He's a good science explainer and it's written for laypeople but there's still some shit that even I can't follow

Mostly I read a lot of Discworld though. Shit's addicting. Beyond the witty comedy and cartoonish style there's an undercurrent of rather wise satire on the absurdities and flaws of human nature.

I find it better to judge the art rather than the artist. Discworld sounds interesting though and it might be my next reading fad if it is as addicting as you say it is. Is there a book to start on or is it short stories like Lovecraft?

there's plenty of discworld novels, with only a few character connections between each book you can start almost anywhere in the series. i like murakami books too

You can absolutely start anywhere. Each story stands on its own and does all necessary introductions. There are a few character timelines that you can follow though. I say jump in anywhere, and when you want to commit to more then start following a timeline. Here's the guide for Discworld reading order i.imgur.com/kvqoC1h.jpg

I'm reading I Am Legend. The main story was pretty good. It was really nothing like the movie at all. The other short stories in it are very hit and miss imo. Some of them are really billy-goating weird and uncomfortable.
