I really like the new cinematic for Smite (a MOBA about old Gods), so much that I made a thread for it:
Okay, so Blizzard has always excelled in the graphics department. But I have to give this one props for the direction it takes in storytelling, and super expressive characters.
By direction, I mean I like the parallel storytelling it attempts, and how I had to slowly work out what's going on while I watched it. The conclusion when it all makes sense is satisfying.
I also really like the main character's acting and nuanced expressions, and how differently she acts between the past and present timelines. This gives her interesting development in a short amount of time. It kinda beats you over the head with 'red eyes = strong" information but clarity's important.
I also like Loki's (the jester-like God) expressions, he's fun and he also acts very differently in each timeline! The giant is pretty average by comparison.
Some people don't like the music. I think it fits, plus an epic orchestral soundtrack would be more of the same... It's another thing Blizzard cinematics do well, and I'd say it's good that Smite is doing its own thing.
